Also, if the picture has been up in your house with the implication that it was taken back in April, then it is not allowed in this contest. ^^

Because there were ties between entries, 11 entries have made it to the final poll.
Both entries of [Empee] and [Nocternity S.] technically made it to the poll, but to keep it fair the final poll only contains the one entry that had most votes.
I think I speak for many of us when I say that this has been one of the most exciting and difficult polls we have ever had to vote on. It's very gratifying to see so much effort put into the entries, awesome work everybody! :)

Am I wrong to be outraged about that? I didn't tell anyone to vote for me and I didn't tell anyone to forward the message, in fact, I did not demand anything at all! 2007-01-30 [Empee]: I totally agree with you [Kyrinn]. Maybe I should have been smarter and just let it be a general thingy in my house, and it's also hard to miss on the mainstreet. Otherwise, of course people will think I want them to vote for me if I tell them about it, since not everyone can judge very objectively. But I really just said they should vote. In many of the messages I even specifically said "(that doesn't mean you have to vote for me ;)" Oh well,I learned a lesson through this. I was overexcited. I just hope it won't go further downwards now.
As for [Nadie importante]'s point; I see what you mean. I guess it should not be about taste, but it's also hard to determine what glamour should be exactly. It can be different in many ways. A plain portrait without any accessoires can also be glamorous, if we look at old hollywood pictures.
I agree with others that it's really hard to get the picture looking authentic. Almost everything has to be perfect; the styling, the background, the lighting and the quality of the photograph itself.
It was a great idea as a theme though, who came up with it?

and Baty ..yours is good... but it was against such stiff competion... thats why I meantioned the things in the B/Gs.. like door hinges... b/c if those little details can be cropped or photomanip over... it improves the whole image... there were alot of ways some very good photos could of been much better with just a little twikin... to improved contrast or clean up distrasting elements that had nothing to do with the 'glamour'
its when you are good that you can always get better... critique is meant to aid that process...

There were some here that weren't chosen that were clearly more fitting to the theme than some that were chosen. I don't want to get yelled at or anything, but I really think there was some favoritism towards certain people, or towards certain styles... but that's just my oppinion... it's gotten me in trouble before ;)
Besides, I already ranted in my diary this morning when I was really upset that certain photos made it over ones that were more glamourous and more fitting to the theme. :P

I think the thing that bothers us is that "glamour" can mean too many different things for every person, so there if there are 10 people making the final desicion, there can be 100 variations of what they will decide at the end.

Ever been in one of those painting classes where the instructor paints a picture and you copy it? You would be amased at how many different versions came out of that room. Everyone sees the world differently, and mood effects that.
Glamour is also different int he eyes of the individual. What one person migth see as glamour, another person will see something totally different.

There are two problems with the messages you sent:
1. It is against the rules to spam other members with copied messages.
Why? Because if everyone started doing this, inboxes would be filled with all kinds of random crap and we don't want that.
2. You did not tell members to vote for you, but you insinuated it.
First you mention that you entered, then you ask to vote. Obviously members are going to read from this that you want them to vote for you.
Whether you literally say it or insinuate it (whether on purpose or by accident), it is against the rules.
The poll is already advertised through the news and there are plenty of ways you can personally advertise it: in your mood, your presentation, your diary. But not by spamming other members with messages.
And I will point out that your entry is already winning, so I see no reason why you had to send those messages in the first place.

Every Councilmember votes for the entry they think best, regardless of who is on the picture.
Obviously not everyone is going to agree with the endresults we picked, because we're dealing with subjective judgement here. There's no way that you can truly judge art objectively.
It's very easy however to sit there and criticize to what has proven to be, which was already previously stated, one of the most difficult polls to vote in.
In conclusion, if you don't like the procedure that is applied to official contests, then maybe it would be better if you didn't enter them and start your own.
2007-01-30 [Empee]: 10 chosen pictures out of 55 is also an extreme ratio. Of course a lot of pictures which lots of people find great stay behind and it feels unfair.

Obviously everyone would like to win, but there can only be one and thus the rest is going to have to be disappointed.

And I think this discussion has flared up in this contest for several reasons:
- Usually it are those who didn't make it, or who's friend didn't make it, who start to complain about the procedure. Of which they knew before they entered it.
- The photographs show portraits, which makes it more easier for people to feel that it's the members that are being voted on rather than the entries.
We have however had a Crewdiscussion about fair voting before it was actually started. You don't have to be well known or well liked, we voted for what we thought were the best entries. It was a multi-voting poll, so everyone was able to vote on however many entries they liked.
- Three Crewmembers made it to the final poll, which seems to make everyone conclude that we must have been only voting on ourselves.
Just to make this clear: Crewmembers who entered did not vote for themselves. By voting for someone elses entry, they actually gave those entries better chances against their own.
If it is going to be held against us that we made the final vote, it means we can't enter any contest. We'd just be catering to the rest of Elftown, but are not allowed to have fun there ourselves.
Instead we get to listen to discussions like this.

Where did I say that? I addressed why what she did is against the rules, because she did not seem to understand (and neither did the rest of you). It is however quite obvious that she is winning regardless of what she sent.

Whenever crew enters there's the chance that members find it unfair. I'm very honoured that my entry was liked, but it's not worth this trouble.

But I did know it when I entered this contest and I have learned from it, haven't I? :)

Sometimes you just want to take part in the excitement and challenge of a contest, to be recognised for your work. But it's not a lot of fun if afterwards the judging on your entry (or of others) is questioned :P
In the sense that it is nicer to win if people really think you deserve it, rather then that it was a case of favouritism or whatever.
Err @[Trennas]: Because you simply don't get to see and understand everything until you're there! :P
But let's not dwell on this and talk about the contest instead!
I was in a store today and bumped into a canvas photograph of Audrey Hepburn. It was pretty amazing!
Some of the entries here would look pretty good on canvas hehe ^^
